Frequently Asked Questions
Why online tutoring?
Online instruction provides flexibility, convenience, comfort, safety, affordability and highly personalized instruction. There is no travel time involved. Students are able to be tutored from the comfort of their own home on their own schedule. Parents/guardians can be assured of the safety of their children since they never leave home. Plus it's fun!
What curriculum do you use for tutoring?
Each program at MGT is designed specifically for each student - no one-size-fits-all, canned curriculum here! We base our instruction on the needs of each student and on the Common Core State Standards so you can rest assured that your child is getting completely individualized instruction that best meets his or her needs.
Is their an age requirement to receive tutoring?
We design most of our sessions for mid-elementary through high school algebra. That said, if your student is younger, older, college-aged or an adult, please contact us; we can work with you to build a program for your student's unique needs..
What programs do you offer?
See the MGT Programs page for more information or contact us directly. If you don't see a something that exactly fits your needs, please let us know and we'll work with you to design a program that is just right for your student.
What are the minimum technology requirements?
See e-lecta's Live's system requirement page to see if your system meets the minimum requirements for the online classroom. In addition, your student will need to have a microphone and speakers to be able to communicate in the classroom (these can be built in to the computer). We recommend a microphone headset for best results. Video capability is optional.
What tools do you use to develop an individualized learning plan for my student?
We have found that personal interviews with the student and parent/guardian to be the most effective tool in developing a plan of action. Most students are able to articulate where they are struggling in math and with what they want help.
How do we get started?
First, we'll conduct a free initial consultation/interview with you in our online classroom or over the phone. In this session we'll discuss which program you would prefer, goals you may have and areas you would like us to work on with your student. After the initial consultation, we'll conduct the student interview. Using this information, we'll develop an individualized learning plan for you student. Tutoring sessions will start immediately after that.
How do I access MGT's online classroom?
We use e-lecta Live for our online classroom needs. Your tutor will send you the link to your unique tutoring session.
Why are your tutoring sessions 30 minutes?
Studies have shown the average person has approximately a 20 - 30 minute attention span before experiencing learning fatigue. We believe students do better when we keep our sessions short, fast moving and to the point. Each of our lessons are individually designed for your student and cover one major concept. We have found by doing this, students have a higher rate of retention and better understanding of the material presented.
As a parent, can I sit on my student's tutoring sessions?
Yes! We welcome parents in all our sessions. If you would like to log-in on your own device, please use the link sent to your student to join the session.
What if my students has to miss a tutoring session?
Life happens - we totally understand! If you need to miss a tutoring session, please contact us via email at least 24-hours prior to the scheduled lesson, and we'll make every effort to reschedule at a time agreeable to both tutor and student. See your tutoring contract for more information.
How do I pay for my student's tutoring?
Tuition can be paid through PayPal or by personal check prior to the first session of the month.
How do you handle privacy?
At MGT, privacy is of the utmost importance. We do not share any of your or your student's private information with anyone. Ever.
